I have just been nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award by Jen from Breastfeeding Needs and I want to thank her for doing so. I’m so excited I framed it, Jen! Jen is a mother of 2 young children and a Mommy Blogger. She has a great site with articles that talk about pregnancy, breastfeeding, and parenting tips in general. Her info is helpful and humorous so it’s one I enjoy reading and commenting on.
I’m so thrilled that she’s selected me for this wonderful award. 🙂
The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award is very similar to the Liebster award. It is given to bloggers by bloggers as a way to get to know each other better and recognize other blogs.
THE RULES ARE PRETTY SIMPLE:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their site.
- Answer the 10 questions sent to you.
- Make up 10 new questions for your nominees to answer.
- Nominate 8 other bloggers, link them in your post and notify them of their nomination
THE QUESTIONS FOR ME TO ANSWER:
- How long have you been blogging?
I’m pretty new to the blogging world. I’ve just started my website about 6 months ago. I have to say that it’s been a lot of work, but a lot of fun at the same time. I’m learning so much each and every day, it’s just amazing! I truly couldn’t have done it without the training and support from the Wealthy Affiliate community. If you don’t know who they are and are interested in starting a blog, you have to check them out.
- What are your long term goals for your blog?
My biggest goal right now is to get more readers. I’d love to be able to help as many struggling parents as possible.
My long term goals are to consistently add good quality content, to be helpful and a little entertaining at the same time, get a good following, and eventually create an e-book. I am already proud of the website I have created but success doesn’t have a stopping point, there is always room for improvement.
- What do you love about blogging?
I love several things about it. First is that blogging enables me to have a website. I have had so much fun initially creating it and I enjoy continuously tweaking it over time. It’s combined my nerdy IT side with my creative side and has quickly become my new favorite hobby.
Secondly, I love that it helps me to reflect on my time spent being a Mommy… thinking about what’s worked and what hasn’t and sharing what I’ve learned. I also get to research new and interesting topics.
Finally, I’d have to say that I love blogging because it is allowing me to express my thoughts. Writing doesn’t come very naturally to me, but I’ve found that blogging has helped. Being a stay at home mom and working out of the house means that I don’t do a lot of communicating during the day so blogging is my way of communicating.
- And what do you hate, or at least just dislike?
What a sad looking face, right? The down side to blogging really isn’t that bad, but I found this pic and thought it was funny. The woman is actually upset because she dropped her ice cream cone but I cropped that part out, lol. The only thing I’d have to say I hate about blogging is how quickly time seems to pass by and feeling like I have to rush to get a post out. I want to create fresh posts regularly but sometimes struggle with finding that time to dedicate to it. I’m trying to balance my time between being a wife, a mom, working part time along with blogging.
- Do you have children and do they influence your blog?
Yes, I have a daughter who will turn 2 in a few months. She is the inspiration for my blog and I wouldn’t have it if it weren’t for her! Yet… I enjoy the quiet time that I get to dedicate to my blog. Even though I talk about her and baby things on my site it’s still ‘me time’ when I’m doing my website.
- What is one thing you have learned about blogging that you never would have thought of before hand?
I’ve learned that it’s not as easy as just typing up an article. It’s actually kind of like a puzzle since there are a lot of different pieces that go into it and they all have to fit together in the end. There’s a lot of research, brainstorming and editing which you would expect but there’s also the gathering of pics, sometimes videos, adding links to internal and external content, social media, etc. It’s fun but also a lot of work.
- What are your hobbies outside of your blog?
I enjoy spending time with my family. After having a child I appreciate family time so much more. I guess that’s not really a hobby, but it’s something I do outside of blogging. I also enjoy going for walks, reading, baking (and eating the end results), gardening, watching chick flicks with a glass of wine, watching home improvement and reality TV shows, and gambling (even though I don’t get to casino’s often… I do not do online gambling, that would be really bad for me… see #10)
- Do you work outside of the home, stay home or do a bit of both?
I am blessed to be able to stay at home with my daughter and work only a few hours a week from home. In the near future I will be back to working my normal 20 hours a week and Grace will be in daycare a couple of days a week. Even then I will work from home but I need her to be in daycare so that I can concentrate on work. There are times that she plays independently, but I still like to monitor what she’s doing. The other day she put a sticker in her mouth and almost choked on it. I tried to get it out, as did she, and she wound up throwing up to get it out. 🙁
- How do you juggle it all?
Thankfully my daughter takes good naps and sleeps well at night because that’s my time to do household chores, work, blog, and do other things I enjoy. I tend to do social media postings here and there throughout the day on my cell phone and make calls to family when Grace is awake and playing. Facetime and Skype are great!
- Tell me one thing about yourself that most of your readers do not know?
I have an addictive personality. If I start doing something that I enjoy… I don’t want to stop! That’s where the gambling hobby comes in to play, lol. It’s not just gambling though, I can start watching a show on Hulu and get caught up watching episodes back-to-back because I can’t wait to find out the ending. I have the same problem with a good book. I wind up losing sleep because I stay up late to keep reading more! All I can say is that it’s a good thing I never got into drugs.
